To introduce himself is very easy for a painter.
He may show his works and get his aiming point, yet to speak about one's life is more complex.
My full name is "Generoso Pompa", but since a child, everyone called me by my short name "Gene".
It is the name I actually sign my works with.
Somebody told me I was born on the 11th of March 1952 in Alexandria (Egypt) where I have been living the wonderful life a few children may have experienced.
In Egypt they called me "the Italian", but in Italy they called me "the Egyptian" because I was born abroad.; then I would say: Egyptian or Italian…. it's up to you to decide!!!
As I said, my childhood was an happy one, in a family in which everyone was devoted to art: my grandfather Generoso Pompa and my grandmother Angela Comi, were a tenor and a soprano at "La Scala Theatre" in Milan; my father Vittorio and my mother Anna Parisi embraced art, ranging from the field of music to the one of poetry and picture.
In 1962 my parents took a decision and left the Alexandria paradise to provide for the future of their sons; Alfred the first son, who is a singer actor; Angela and I.
First they decided to move to Australia. On the way they had a short stage in Italy: since then, I have been living in Rome for thirty years.
As a lot of children do, I started painting and imitating great masters of the past most of Ettore Roesler Franz, the painter of "Rome desappeared".
The Esedra Gallery in Rome had commissioned these works.
In the years 70s, after my father's death, I stopped my activity for a long time, when I was impelled by necessity, to sell my best work one I was very fond of. Then I got far from the world of art and to be drawn to again in the years 80s with renewed enthusiasm.
I alternatively worked at surrealistic paintings or simply to landskapes using a partyicular relief technique and means as brush and spatula.
I confess that since the first time I presented these works in exhibitions, I met the favour the public and later on, critics encourajed me to continue my search.
I refined my technique time passing and I am also obteining a some national and international awards.
