Siu Ho Lee
was born in Guangzhou, China in 1957. He later attended the Guangzhou
Art College from 1975-1979 and the Hong Kong Art College from
1980-1982. Siu Ho Lee is one of the few talented young artists
to arrive on America's shores as a result of China's open door
policy to the West. Lee's training is formal and his subjects
classical, but in all his work, there is an overriding atmosphere
of the contemporary, one that makes its presence known in nuance
and mood rather than bold strokes.
The
artist looks to the west for inspiration and bases his painting
on the styles established by the Dutch Masters for his florals
and in Traditional Realism for his interiors and landscapes. Blending
influences further, Siu Ho Lee takes these similar styles and
applies them to subjects of French Rococo interiors or English
drawings rooms, thus achieving a current perspective on classical
choices of subject.
Since
coming to the United States in 1988, Siu Ho Lee made clear advances
in his painting and has begun an extremely strong following in
private collections throughout the country.
